I am very interested in this but have run into a few snags. I downloaded and installed Blink3d, but it ran very badly on my machine. I have quite a quick machine, but maybe it is my video card.

Also is there any support to import via 3ds max or Maya, as those are the industry standard and I don't want ot have to learn a new app.

Cheers,

Taylor

I'm not sure what you mean by badly, a crash, poor frame rate, corrupted graphics? Blink 3D will run on most low end machines and graphics cards, normally the problem is that the GPU device drivers are out of date. What GPU are you using and what version of the driver? Also can you define more why you think it is running badly, are you on Vista or Widnows XP. What CPU do you have and how much memory? What was the frame rate for a default project?

Yes there is support for 3ds Max and Maya. The top 2 images above were done in Maya and the bottom one was done in Blender. Here is some info on the exporters available for DCC products. http://www.pelicancrossing.com/Exporters.htm

Thanks Clive for your response. I am running a Geforce 6800, I just updated the video driver.
I am running XP Pro on a AMD Phenon 9600 Quad Core 2.30 Ghz with 3 gigs of ram.
Here is what happens:

Thanks for the video, yes I can see the problem. It is most defiantly is a driver/GPU issue. I just checked and for a GeForce 6800 the latest version of the driver is 177.41. Now here's the rub, the latest version is not always the best version. Sometimes the latest version has more bugs than the previous one. Check out this thread on Guru 3D or this one the NVIDIA forum.

I love NVIDIA and work closely with them and I love their cards but the driver issues with them and ATI drive me nuts, it's one of the biggest obstacles to virtual worlds taking off. I have lost count of the number of conversations like this I have had. Sometimes the problems are even more spectacular, the Builder will crash, install the right driver and it will work fine.

Please let me know how you get on with this. Maybe Google for the versions of the drivers mentioned in the threads. Or check out this site http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ who specialize in drivers but I think more for laptops than desktops.
