Came across this interesting animation software, courtesy of a social bookmark from one of my IBM virtual worlds colleagues, Michael Rowe.
What iClone seems to offer is another example of the democratization of 3D, in this case making it relatively easier to create 3D movies. Not going to give Maya or Pixar a run for the money, but for $200, a pretty powerful looking tool.

From the day I joined second life the feeling of being an outsider has always been there, not talking about just the usual experiences of neewbiedom, but in the very nature of the demography, I even remember the dilemma of what to put in my profile tab, meeting people yes , but after that well!
On reading my recent email from Nick Wilson of Clever Zebra on the vBusiness Expo I realized that Steve Prentice, VP at Gartner Group hit the nail on the head with his keynote address " It's about…Continue

In reading Sophrosyne's excellent post with her comments on the article I'd written entitled "Virtual World Economics: “Fair Value for Professional Services" and the interesting post by Dale Innis in response, I felt this merited a new blog of its own. Soph's argument (and John Jainschigg's at http://www.zzomg.com) argue that the virtual world economy is colonial, third world country and introducing atomic world pricing for goods and services would have a negative impact.
I think though, that w… Continue
Life isn’t always easy. Some say life is a struggle, a challenge. We often hear the saying “up a creek without a paddle.” Life can be a test, you’re either prepared or unprepared. Who we become as adults is greatly influenced by the way we are raised as children. The abilities and skills to survive and excel in this test of life are forever ingrained in us by our parents and educators. In this fast-paced ever evolving world, the prepared are able to rise to the challenges of life and fortune of… Continue
Like most virtual worlds natives, we hate adding overmuch to the hype surrounding these profound technologies. And we're especially sensitive about claiming "firsts" — something corporations have been over-eager to do in virtual world spaces. That said, last night, Saturday, July 12 at 8 PM EST, we hosted Second Life Looks at Lively, a panel of major media virtual worlds watchers doing a week-one "first impressions" vamp on Google's introduction of their Lively virtual world service, this past M… Continue

How does one know what is truth and reality when dealing, playing and working in a virtual world? The reason I am writing this is due to the fact that at some point we all question someones honesty when in all reality you cannot see the person, only the avatar of someone you may talk to or work with in a virtual world. I may be Sadie Pippita in Second Life, but in the real world I am Kim Randall. I have the same voice, feelings, opinions, fears, desires, likes, dislikes and so on as Sadie only I… Continue

OK every so often I come across a designer that I absolutely love and tonight that designer fell right into my lap (not really). Aeris Pinazzo had stopped by Sand Castle Studios earlier in the day when I was not online and when I did happen to log back in I contacted her from a visitors list that I use. She TP'd me to her location and I was stunned. Her clothes are wonderful. Even this textured ad doesn't show just how wonderful the clothes are. She has just started out only 2 weeks ago and I co… Continue
This one time a little over a year ago, I met a man in Second Life that would change my life as I knew it then for good. He was a kind man, married, but so nice to me. We became friends and talked from time to time. He helped me out with my computer (which is still a piece) however it does work a bit better. Our friendship grew and grew and grew until before either of us knew it, we fell in love. We had to always be talking and Skyping. I loved seeing him on the web cam (nothing naughty). We tal… Continue

So I was recently passed a note card asking me "How do you feel about Second Life on it's 5th birthday?" Hmmm..... That is a very good question. In this note card there are instructions about either voice recording your thoughts, which by the way is preferred :-) , OR responding via note card with 140 characters or less. I am a bit torn as there is a lot that I would love to say on this issue (personal experiences) I would definitely love to voice my opinion on things and people that have been b… Continue

So here I am again, trying to sleep, but I can't. I want to blame him. I want him to be the reason that I can't lie in bed without my thoughts drifting back to this one time.... This time where I, for the most part, was happy and he was in my life. Now I do know that all things happen for a reason. What I do not understand is what reason that is. For me to hate life and myself a little more every day? For his wife to pay more attention to him? What did I do exactly to deserve this sort of tortur… Continue

As prices of computing hardware falls and software standardization and reusability becomes common place, like the computers of yesterday, the tele-immersive systems of today will also become available to the general public. There also exists the possibility for future application of tele-immersion in some new areas like Music Synthesis, Ps… Continue

Economic pressures are taking their toll on surf sims in Second Life and it seems certain that more surf sims will close during the coming months. Rezzable, one of Second Life's leading sim owner/developers, announced the closing of Surfline Aloha and Surfline Epic sims on Saturday, half-way through what has been a very up and down year for Rezzable's Second Life surfing venture.
Most of Surflines' surfing waves were turned off for much of February and March and Rezzable created a new temporary… Continue

What is the definition of New Media.
Surely Web2.0 is now old media.
The new media will be immersive 3D environments; using the technology developed by the CGI, gaming, and film industries will be the future media.
We need to start preparing for this rather than the 2D text, images and flashy flashy web sites with no content; just a front office metaphor.
I believe we should start planning now for the future revolution; we are at the beginning of a wave of change that will completely change… Continue

I invite all interested human/avatar duos to participate in a fun exploration into human vs. avatar personality traits.
Many active Second Life users experience their avatar and human expressions as distinct beings with unique and even contradictory personality qualities. For instance, a human may be shy and modest while the associated avatar is the flirtatious life of a party.
To look more closely at this phenomenon, I thought it would be interesting to do some informal investigation together… Continue

IF the driver is a bad driver, he/she is still driving a car

These settings are tweaked for use with the current default SL client, as the old WL settings I have on my blog are now obsolete. This is based on the default midday setting with some tweaks so your avatar will look better with local lighting AND atmospheric shaders (no need to turn them off). It's recommended to use a very faint face lamp or none at all in public (consider it as doing the public a service that your face lamps won't be blinding anyone else on WL!). Note that the lighting is unif… Continue

For the past few months, I have been getting to know Second Life, Entropia and Open Sim.
Up until March 2008, I was looking and creating a small Virtual World in the Torque engine (currently used at IBM as Metaverse). Licenced software.
